Preveli Beach, also known as Palm Beach, is one of Greece’s most instantly recognizable stretches of sand. It sits at the mouth of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge from where the river Megalopotamos slices across it before emptying into the Libyan Sea.

The palm-lined riverbanks have clear freshwater pools for swimming. The swimming in the river will certainly be a pleasant experience. The river, forming a large lake, 500m long, before emptying into the sea, has water all year round. You can walk along the river, under the shade of palm trees and other trees, and start ascending in the beautiful canyon.

You can swim in the cold ponds formed in the gorge. The palm forest was completely burned on 8/22/2010 due to a big fire, but paradoxically returned greatly in a short time.

At the exit of the river, a sandy beach with pebbles and sand is formed, with sea water being very cool due to the river. In the eastern part of the beach, there is a beautiful rock reminding of a heart.

You can be served to eat and drink, as there are few restaurants and snack bars nearby. However, there is no possibility to stay overnight. Moreover, you could rent pedal boats for a ride in the river.
